A system known as WESTECT for Automatic Train Protection, supplied by Westinghouse
Signals (now Siemens Rail Automation, Australia), is used extensively on railways in Queensland. The system continuously
monitors the operation of a train, and can intervene in train operation so that
the train cannot exceed its maximum speed limit, or cross a danger point.

The system comprises a track-mounted transponder, and locomotive-mounted
antenna, ID check tag, UHF transmitter, and control and monitoring electronics.
Upon activation by the passing locomotive, the track-mounted transponder
    provides the
locomotive with track location ID information that is used to determine
authorities and limits that lead to parameters for safety of operations.

Niksar has formal design and
manufacturing responsibility and
provides through life support of the Planar Antenna used in the Automatic Train Protection
system.
