Repair and Maintenance of End of Train (EOT) Units
 

Niksar Australia carries out repairs and calibration procedures to the End-of-Train Telemetry (EOT) Systems for Pacific National (Asciano).

The End-of-Train Telemetry System consists of a Sense and Brake Unit (SBU) mounted on the coupler and is connected to the air braking system, of the last train car that communicates via built-in UHF radio modems with a Communications Display Unit (CDU) or Locomotive Cab Unit (LCU) mounted in the Cabin.

The SBU/EOT, when operating in conjunction with the CDU/LCU, provides the locomotive driver with information about the conditions at the rear of the train that are important to the operation of the train, as:

bullet

Brake pressure

bullet

Status of the data link

bullet

Car motion

bullet

Communications link tests

bullet

Emergency activation of the braking system, and

bullet

Battery status of the SBU

Both the SBU and the CDU have

built in test modes for

trouble shooting and repair.
